Phillip Jones trial set for 2011

A trial for the lawsuit by fired University of Iowa Vice President Phillip Jones has been set for next year.

The trial is scheduled for Jan. 10, 2011, and the pretrial conference will be held Dec. 17, according to Johnson County District Court documents.

Jones, former dean of students and vice president for student services, contends that he was wrongfully fired and the UI did not follow due process. He also alleges that UI President Sally Mason made false and defamatory statements about him.

Named in the suit are the state Board of Regents, the UI and Mason, who fired Jones and another administrator in September 2008 after a sexual assault scandal involving student athletes.
